Is America determined to follow the path of of Taliban fundamentalism ? What American judiciary says ?
-----------
Gone are the days of American dreams, now the days of American nightmares. The U.S. Supreme Court recently overturned a 1973 ruling that curtailed women's constitutional right to abortion. The US Supreme Court reversed the 1973 ruling on the grounds of RELIGION and morality. The Supreme Court has ruled that it is irreligious because a foetus is being killed as a result ; therefore, it is also immoral and in this case, women must bear the burden of morality. If so, will the democratic rights of America be judged by religion henceforth ?
In the 1973 case of the historical Jane Roe versus Henry Wade, only two of the nine judges of the Supreme Court spoke out against the right to abortion. The majority of the seven who argued in favour of women's basic rights in support of abortion were ignored. Their argument was that the fundamental rights are the first consideration in a democracy. It seems that from now on, democratic rights will be judged in America on the basis of religion and thus America is determined to follow the path of Taliban fundamentalism !
The implications for thousands of women now and in the future by reversing the 1973 judgement of Roe versus Wade are utterly deplorable. The ruling demonstrates how women's bodies are subject to the dominant political powers.
Abortion is irreligious and immoral, and women must bear the burden of morality. As a result of this verdict, women will be severely affected in two ways. First, bringing up children conceived by force or by accident would greatly affect the mental and physical health of women. Second, poor women will be in crisis. In order to earn a living, they have to work indoors and outdoors. If the right to abortion is taken away, they will suffer more. With this one verdict, America really went back fifty years.
