India's stand in Russia-Ukraine war

 India's stand in Russia-Ukraine war.

-------

From the very beginning, India has adopted a neutral line, seeking an end to hostilities, insisting that dialogue is the only solution. The world (Read West and it's allies) criticized Russia, while India maintained silence. India has steadfastly stuck to its national interest and historical belief of neutrality. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commented, "today the world has witnessed the emergence of such an India which stands firm to safeguard it's interest against fear or pressure." - a very bold stand indeed.

However, India at the same time called for the strict adherence to the UN charter on sovereignty and the territorial integrety of all nations. It has also sent humanitarian assistance for the beleaguered people of Ukraine -- both are commendable diplomatic steps.

In my opinion this is Mr. Modi's second bold step, he has delivered to the nation since he'd taken charge of the PM's office in 2014, the first one being the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A in J & K, a few years ago, that no PM of India before had the courage to take such a major decision.

Mr. S Jaishankar, minister of external affairs and a very competent bureaucrat who represented India in meetings of Russia- Ukraine issues deserves special mention.
