সম্প্রতি ভারতের পারমাণবিক কর্মসূচির অন্যতম স্থপতি ডঃ রাজাগোপাল চিদাম্বরম (1936-2025) পরলোকের পথে পাড়ি দিলেন। তিনি ছিলেন একজন অদম্য বিজ্ঞানী যাঁর অবদান ভারতের পারমাণবিক সক্ষমতা এবং কৌশলগত স্বনির্ভরতাকে উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে উন্নত করেছে।

পোখরানে ১৯৭৪ এবং ১৯৯৮ সালে পারমাণবিক পরীক্ষার কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা এবং কাজ করা স্বল্প সংখ্যক কিছু বিজ্ঞানীদের মধ্যে তিনি অগ্রণী ভূমিকায় ছিলেন। তিনি দীর্ঘ ১৮ বছর ভারত সরকারের অধীনে (২০০১-২০১৮) প্রধান বৈজ্ঞানিক উপদেষ্টা হিসাবে কাজ করেছেন। পাকাপাকি ভাবে অবসরের পরে উনি মুম্বই-এর চেম্বুর অঞ্চলে বসবাস শুরু করেন।

ডঃ চিদাম্বরম একজন স্বপ্নদর্শী পরমাণু বিজ্ঞানী ছাড়াও ন্যাশনাল সুপার কম্পিউটার মিশন, কোয়ান্টাম টেকনোলজির মিশন সহ বেশ কয়েকটি মেগা বিজ্ঞান প্রকল্প সমর্থন করেছিলেন। তিনি জোর দিয়ে বলেন, জাতীয় উন্নয়ন ও জাতীয় নিরাপত্তা একই মুদ্রার দুই পিঠ।

আমরা আন্তর্জাতিক মানের এই বিশিষ্ট পদার্থবিজ্ঞানী,যিনি তাঁর পূর্ণ ক্ষমতা জাতির সেবায় উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন, তাঁর আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করি।

Recently, Dr. Rajagopal Chidambaram (1936-2025), one of the architects of India's nuclear programme, passed away. He was an indomitable scientist whose contributions significantly enhanced India's nuclear capabilities and strategic self-reliance.

He was one of the few scientists who led and worked on the nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1974 and 1998. He served as the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government of India for 18 years (2001-2018). After his retirement, he settled in the Chembur area of ​​Mumbai.

Apart from being a visionary nuclear scientist, Dr. Chidambaram supported several mega science projects including the National Supercomputer Mission and the Mission for Quantum Technology. He stressed that national development and national security are two sides of the same coin.
